Put on your best mood and come to HaMiffal for Jerusalem’s most colorful food festival. When a Balkan banquet opens its doors, the celebration is contagious, with appetizing food, enchanting music, and everything else — the costumes, colors, tales, and people who insist on rejoicing and spreading joy. You’ll just have no choice but to join in!

Chef Rachel Alcalay, a fourth-generation Jerusalemite of Bulgarian descent, lays out a gigantic feast filled with foods that she grew up with: stuffed, fried, baked, savory, and sweet, of the kind that you won’t find anywhere else. The alcohol will flow, while Balkan music will be played in the background by DJ Lidia Maletin. When you are truly ready, the Balkan Witches’ Band will take the stage in the center of the ancient space, accompanied by three musicians. There hasn’t been a celebration like this here in a long while!

The event includes

  • Fried parsley balls
  • Fish Kabab
  • Small eggplants in the oven stuffed with Bulgarian minced beef
  • Puff pastry stuffed with spinach and Bulgarian
  • A stew of Bulgarian cheese eggplant and tomato salad
  • Beer bread and spreads to the center of the table: Filtered yogurt, almonds and olive oil
  • Balkan music will be played in the background by DJ Lidia Maletin
  • Drinking - Iran (Yogurt) Juice Shifka (Rose Bar)

About the Location

Located in a beautiful and until recently deserted building, the Mifaal is the sixth project of the Empty House (“Bait Rek”) movement, active in Jerusalem since 2011. For each project, a group of Jerusalem artists take temporary possession of an abandoned building and prepares it for unifying community activities.
